Dr. Patrick Butaye

About

Prof. Dr. Patrick Butaye, DVM, PhD, is working on several research subjects including antimicrobial resistance and alternatives for antimicrobials, mainly focusing on bacteriophages. He is PI of 2 major externally funded research projects on which 3 PhD students are active. Next to that, he is PI of an externally funded research project on the influences of β-glucans on the general immunity and works together with a post doc examining microbiomes of mongoose as well as methicillin resistance in the staphylococci of monkeys.

Dr. Butaye is involved as collaborator in 9 externally funded research projects in other countries all over the world on different subjects dealing mainly with zoonotic pathogens. He supports several intramural grants. He is an executive committee member of the European Study Group in Veterinary Medicine (ESGVM) of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious diseases (ECMID) as well as a country Ambassador for the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). Next he is member of the scientific committee of the newly erected European College of veterinary Microbiology (ECVM), is assigned as expert on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic pathogens for the WHO and FAO and facilitates PAHO meetings on antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial use and mitigation of antimicrobial resistance.

Currently, Dr. Butaye has close to 17Pubmed listed publications and over 250 publications in total (excluding conference contributions). His mid 2019 h-index is 44 and last year he had over 750 citations of his papers. He is Editor in Chief on ‘BMC Veterinary Research’ as well as ‘Veterinary sciences’. He is also editor of Frontiers in Microbiology and PlosOne
